A program offered by Atlanta Endocrine Associates in partnership with HMR Weight Management Services (HMR) has been named No. 1 Best Fast Weight-Loss Diet in U.S. News & World Reports’ Best Diets of 2016 Rankings. HMR also held its position as the No. 2 Best Weight-Loss Diet in the annual rankings list for the second year in a row.
HMR’s proven methods are based on more than 30 years of weight-loss coaching experience. HMR Programs include an emphasis on eating more fruits and vegetables, increasing physical activity and a focus on turning these new healthy lifestyle skills into habits. Founded by a behavioral psychologist, HMR takes into account aspects of adult learning theory along with years of data collection to create diet programs that are both effective and easy to stick to, helping users solidify new skills and habits they can use for the rest of their lives.
“We believe the HMR Program for weight management is one of the most effective weight-loss options available, and its inclusion in the national rankings again is a reflection that others recognize the value of the program, as well,” said Scott Isaacs, M.D., medical director. “At Atlanta Endocrine Associates, we’ve helped people achieve high rates of success with the HMR Program, which can result in improvement in risk factors for the development of conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.”

Long-term Weight Control
HMR’s programs have shown dramatic results for people using the program through local clinics and as part of their health insurance and benefits programs. Clinic-based participants with BMI of 40 or higher who completed at least 12 weeks of the HMR program experienced an average weight loss of 66 lbs. after 26 weeks. (Anderson JW, et al. Int J Obes. 2007;31:488-493 )
Selected Health Outcomes from the HMR Program
It is well reported that weight loss is associated with favorable changes in medical risk factors. Below are health risk reductions and medication changes for 721 HMR patients who participated in a clinic-based program (mean duration of participation 107.6 weeks):
•Fasting Glucose (mg/dL): -9.4 percent
•Total Cholesterol / HDL ratio: -10.3 percent
•Diastolic / Systolic Blood Pressure: -7mmHg / -4 mmHg
•Triglycerides (mg/dL): -26.7 percent
•Of 126 patients taking oral diabetes medications at baseline, 40.5 percent (n=51) had discontinued these medications at follow-up.
•Of 337 patients taking blood pressure medications at baseline, 36.2 percent (n=122) had discontinued these medications at follow-up.
The U.S. News & World Report Ranking Process
During the ranking process, reporters and editors from U.S. News & World Report created in-depth profiles of 38 diets. A panel of nationally recognized experts on diet, nutrition, obesity, food psychology, diabetes and heart disease rated the diets on their effectiveness. “The Best Diets rankings are designed to help consumers identify a diet that suits their specific weight and lifestyle needs,” said Angela Haupt, senior health & wellness editor for U.S. News & World Report. “This year we published the Best Fast Weight-Loss Diet category because we recognize dieters may have short-term weight goals and need options to accomplish that in a healthy way.”
